Walkthrough of the game "The Travels of Marco Polo"

Venice - Marco Polo's room

  • Talk to Niccolo Polo

  • Click on the window

  • Open the window. Click on the handle and turn it clockwise (hold the mouse button down)

  • Take the two sheets, on the bed and on the chest

  • In the inventory, combine the sheets to form a longer sheet

  • Use the sheets on the balcony to climb down easily

  • Click on the chest to the left

  • The Chest's Puzzle
    • Move the 3 parts to gain access to the button that controls opening

    • If the button is inactive, look at it carefully, as well as the four symbols in the corner of the lock

    • To activate the hourglass button, move the right hand part up and the left hand part down (cf. picture)

    • Turn the middle part to access the button

    • The chest opens once the hourglass button is activated and pressed

  • Take the money and leave the room by the window


  • Dock of Venice

  • Take the ladder (1), the screwdriver (2), the bailer (3) and the plank (4)

  • Place the ladder across the canal to get to the other side (5)

  • Click on the shop (6)

  • Puzzle Force the Lock
    • Use the screwdriver, and unscrew the four screws

    • Remove the panel that hides the inside of the lock

    • Slide the parts so that they don't cross over the central frame

  • Go to the opened carpenter's workshop


  • Carpenter's workshop

  • Place the plank on the vise (6)

  • Take the handle (1), the saw (2), the hammer (3), the rag (4), the nails (5)

  • Place the handle on the vise and clic to fix it

  • Use the saw on the plank

  • Take the cutted plank

  • Use the rag on the pot of glue (7)

  • Quit the carpenter's workshop (8)


  • Dock of Venice

  • Click on the gondola

  • Place the rag soaked in glue on the hole

  • Place the little plank on it

  • Place the nails on the plank

  • Use the hammer to nail down the plank

  • Drain twice the water from the gondola

  • Back on the dock, click on the big boat

  • Click on the matress under the window (1)

  • Turn the cleat to lower the matress

  • Click on the lowered matress

  • In the Close Up, take the crowbar

  • Click and slide the wisps of straw to move them and access the 7 pieces of torn picture that are scattered on the mattress

  • Click on the table

  • Place the pieces of the picture on the table with the two others

  • Click on the pieces of picture

  • Puzzle Picture
    • Click and slide the pieces of the picture to recreate the drawing of the cell

    • The picture is an almost perfect representation of the cell, but two details differ...

  • Click on the paving stone zone (2)

  • In the Close Up, use the crowbar to move the stone

  • Take the rope, the stake and the nail

  • Use the rope on the ring at the right of the shelves (3)

  • Click on the rope to move the shelves

  • Click on the door behind the shelves

  • In the Close Up use the nail on the door lock

  • Click on the opened door

  • After talking with Rustichello, find him some food

  • Go back to Marco's cell

  • Place the stake on the broken stool to fix it

  • Click on the stool to move it

  • Click on the beam above

  • Click on the spiders in the Close Up, in order to make them flee

  • Take the pack on the beam

  • Go back to see Rustichello

  • Flashback Venice, on the boat

  • Take 4 yellow marbles, 5 navigation instruments and 18 maps

  • Open the desk drawer to find objects (1)

  • Open the Chinese closet to find objects (2)

  • Puzzle Chinese Closet
    • Place the marbles correctly to open the closet

    • The colorful symbols on the sides of the lock are precious clues to how the marbles must be positioned

    • A red (or yellow) symbol means that the line or column next to it can only contain red (or yellow) marbles

    • An orange symbol means that the column or line contains marbles of both colors

    • The lines on the wood cleats tell you how many marbles to place per line Totem

  • Talk to Rustichello

  • Take the knife on the table

  • Go to Marco's cell

  • In the Close Up, use the knife to cut Marco's coat sleeve

  • Take the gem

  • Click on the door (2) to call the guard and talk to him

  • Once you got the chest, give him the gem

  • Click on the chest to open it

  • To obtain the merchant's blue turban, you have to solve a puzzle

  • Spice's Puzzle
    • Fill the tray so that the same spice never appears in two neighboring compartments

  • Click on the barrels on the left

  • Remove the barrels under the staircase

  • Barrel's Puzzle
    • This puzzle is based on the Tower of Hanoi. You can place a barrel on any other larger barrel

    • The aim is to pile them all up on the left to clear access to the alcove under the stairs.

  • Click on the key under the alcove

  • In the Close Up, click on the scorpions, to chase them away

  • Take the key

  • Use the key on the left door

  • Enter the house

  • Find all the objects listed in the invenory

  • Open the chest to find some of the objects

  • Talk to Rustichello

  • Discover the name of the young woman with the bewitching voice

    Marco's cell
  • Click on the window on the right (1)

  • Start talking with the young lady

  • Take her portrait on the cell wall (2)

  • Take the silk from the chest (3)

  • Combine the portrait and the silk in the inventory

  • Use the portrait on the young lady

  • Go back to see Rustichello

    Holy Sepulchre

    Find a way to wake the brother gatekeeper

  • Click on the shelter on the right (1)

  • Take the cup on the low table (3)

  • Click on the jug to put it straight (4)

  • Use the cup on the jug

  • Talk to the brother gatekeeper to retrieve the cellar's key

  • Click on the cellar's door on the right (2)

  • In the Close Up, use the key on the lock

  • Cellar
  • Click on the recipe on the beam (1)

  • Take rosemary (2), honey (3) and cinnamon (4)

  • Combine the three spices in the inventory

  • Click on the barrels (5)

  • In the Close Up, use the cup on the barrels of Abruzze's wine

  • Combine the filled cup and the mixed spices
    Note : In case of bad wine choice, use it on the pot (6) to empty the cup

  • Holy Sepulchre
  • Go back to see the monk, give him the wine and honey, he will tell you how to get the sacred oil

  • Get the sacred oil

    Cellar
  • Take the axe (7)

  • Use the axe on the big empty barrel (8) on the left

  • Click on the opened barrel

  • Sacristy
  • Take the flask on the left cabinet (1)

  • Click on the cabinet at the bottom of the piece (2)

  • Puzzle of the Sacred oil
    • Put the engraved plates symbolizing the different oil in order

    • The book under the containers contains the clues to where the plates should be positioned

    • Once the gates open, take a small amount of oil of the Holy Sepulchre

  • Leave the place

  • Click on the caravanserai's door (2)

  • In the Zoom, take the crowbar and leave the Zoom

  • Click on the rock's zone (3)

  • In the Close Up, use the crowbar as a lever to move the large rock

  • Take the silver nuggets

  • Weigh the silver nuggets

  • Click on the entrance of the tent

  • Click on the scales

  • In the Close Up, use the nuggets on the low table

  • Drag and drop the 4 good nuggets into the right hand tray

  • Get out of the tent

  • Enter the caravanserai

  • Click on the caravanserai's door

  • Click on the lock of the door

  • In the Close Up, use the key on the mechanism

  • Moon's phases Puzzle
    • The two buttons with arrows turn all the parts in the direction shown

    • The four small buttons around the lock let you switch the 2 places they are linked to

    • The new Moon, bright blue, should be at the top, while the full Moon should be at the bottom of the diagram

  • Click on the opened door to enter the caravanserai

    Heal the camel

  • Take the handle (1), the bucket (2), the fabric (3), the ropes (4,5)

  • Use the rope on the well

  • Use the bucket on the rope

  • Use the handle on the well

  • Take the bucket full of black oil

  • Combine the fabric and the black oil bucket in the inventory

  • Go back near the camel

  • Take the fabric soaked in oil on its injured lug

  • Go back to see the Nomad and talk to him

    To flee

  • Take the beam next to the door (6)

  • Use the beam on the door

  • Take the wicker lid (7)

  • Click on the cobra

  • In the Close Up, use the Oud on the cobra

  • Oud's Puzzle
    • Click on the ropes

    • Reproduce the melody, in order to charm the cobra

  • Use the wicker lid on the basket

  • Use the rope on the closed basket

  • Activate the lever to access the hidden keyboard

  • Click on the keyboard

  • Keyboard's Puzzle
    • Compose the code that opens the passage; the combination is on the carpet on the wall

  • Click on the hatch that opened

  • In the Close Up, take the knife and the sewed purse

  • Combine the knife and the sewed purse in the inventory

  • Use the Murano's pearls on the young lady

    Ressources Puzzle
    • The puzzle is to correctly sort all the resources from the top in the golden circles on the map, and connect them to the means of transport stored at the bottom of the screen. Once the map is complete, press the confirm button

  • Talk to the Great Khan

  • Discover if Ashmat was a traitor

  • Click on the box in the middle of the piece

  • In the Close Up, press the two engraved buttons on the top

  • Slide the two wooden slats that hide the opening mechanism

    • Using the small floating gears, guide the vertical cogs down to the red button

    • The red wheel will enable you to free access to the blue button

    • Free the access to the green button, then guide the horizontal cog to it

  • Take the letter in the box

  • UUse the letter on the Great Khan

  • Talk to the Great Khan

  • Meet the Kublai's princess

  • Go to the palace gardens

  • Click on the boat (1) to join the princess

  • Click on the princess, to talk

    Flashback Tibet

    Find the potion of love

  • Click and talk to the monk

  • Click on the Mandala

  • Puzzle Mandala
    • Arrange the pigments so that the same color never appears in two neighboring compartments

  • Talk to the monk

  • Cross the chasm to get to the Chörten, the small temple where the potion is hidden

  • Open all the alcoves in the Chörten

  • Click on the left shelter (1)

  • Turn the four prayer wheels in the left shelter to access the alcoves in the Chörten

  • The prayer wheels are connected to each other. When they all display the same symbol, they open the corresponding alcove (2) in the Chörten.

  • Collect four new prayer wheels and place them in the shelter on the right (3))

  • Do the same to open the four alcoves that are still closed

  • Take the incense burner, the Tibetan lighter, the conch and the chalice

  • Change the missing incense burner

  • Light both incense burners with the Tibetan lighter

  • Use the conch on the Chörten's door

  • Conch's Puzzle
    • Use the conch to play the music on the score

    • Each hole in the conch enables one of the four sounds on the score to be played

  • Once the door opened, gather a few drops of the precious liquid in the chalice

  • Go talk to the monk


  • Flashback Great Khan's Palace

    Conclure le mariage de Kubilai et de Kokachin

  • Go to the young women to give her the potion
